Adrian Borland was a tragic figure who struggled with depression for most of his live. With his band The Sound he never reached major success, even though the bands first albums were received very well. After The Sound broke up he spent some time in The Netherlands, where he was more well known compared to the UK. At the age of 41, back in the UK, he took his own live.
This album is the last one recorded by The Sound, and from what I read not considered the best. I picked it up from the 2nd hand bin at the local record shop a few weeks ago. Side A is still relatively up-beat, on the flip-side things become more grim with song titles like ‘Shut Up and Shot Down’ and ‘I Give You Pain’, that don’t try to hide the authors state of mind.
