This week Geese played in Amsterdam, and with the release of their latest album Getting Killed they are now the hottest indie band around. I tried to get last-minute tickets for that show via TicketSwap. I was not the only one though, so for every ticket coming up for sale I ended up in a lottery with over thousand others, no luck there. But, checking again on their website for other options, there was a new show listed in August in Cologne, and I managed to get tickets for that, so I will still see them live. And probably spend 1 or 2 days extra in Cologne.
For me, Getting Killed reminds me of the time I discovered Rain Dogs by Tom Waits back in 1985. Especially through the unique sound of Cameron Winter’s voice, and the use of percussion elements in many of the songs. The absolute highlight of is the break midway through Taxes, which was the best musical moment I heard in years. For that moment alone I have to see them live.
